When Swizz Beatz stole weed from Snoop Dogg

Swizz Beatz is an American rapper, record producer, record executive, and business entrepreneur. Starting off his career as a DJ, he’s known both for his own musical career and for his work as the founder of Full Surface Records and Monster Music Group.

Just like anyone involved in music, especially with a love for it like Swizz Beatz, one might expect a lot of fun stories and personal connections both to music itself and to hanging out and coming up in the scene—and Swizz Beatz definitely has that.

Specifically, when asked about the very first gig he went to, he had some wild tales to tell about seeing Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Daz, and Lady Of Rage at Trafalgar Square in New York in 1994. And it’s because he stole weed from Snoop Dogg.

As for what actually happened, here’s what Swizz Beatz had to say on the matter, “I think it might have been Snoop’s first ever show in New York. I was there with DMX who was performing too – and me and Snoop joke about that show a lot because I snuck in his dressing room and stole some weed out of his pocket.”

He continued, “I don’t even smoke weed but I was like, ‘yo! I got Snoop’s weed’, and I bagged it. It was in an envelope for years. I have no idea where it is now.”

It’s sort of hilarious that not only did he do it just to do it, but he never even smoked the weed, even years later. He simply lost it. With all the years that have gone by, it’s unrealistic to expect that he’ll ever find it again (or that it would be smoke-able if he did), but that would be a hilarious bookend to the wild ride of the story.

If he ever did find it again, it would also be hilarious for him to eventually return it, but then again, that wasn’t really the point of the story either, was it? I guess one of the main lessons here is that if you don’t smoke weed, don’t steal it, but also, if you steal weed, don’t let it leave your sight (especially if it carries the memory of your first gig, seeing Snoop Dogg).
