When Suge Knight was shot at an MTV party

Businessman and former music executive Suge Knight was a very ill-tempered man. Notorious for his feuds and antics, the now-incarcerated Knight was a volatile figure. That said, he has had many run-ins over the years with various people and has made a lot of enemies. As such, it is unsurprising that on one occasion, at a Los Angeles club after the VMAs, he once got shot.

After the VMAs, the controversial R’n’B singer Chris Brown hosted a party at the iconic club 1OAK on Sunset Boulevard. The guest list included stars such as apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas and male supermodel Tyson Beckford. Justin Bieber was even photographed at the club earlier that night.

Six shots were heard inside the club. However, at the wishes of Knight, nobody called the police. However, shot in the stomach and arm, among other places. Two other men and a woman were also shot.

Due to the sheer number of people with vendettas against Knight in Los Angeles, it was initially unclear who the shooter was. Furthermore, the crowded and dark club didn’t provide excellent evidence for the police, who got involved after a TMZ cameraman caught Knight outside the club and called an ambulance.

Following the shooting, there was chaos outside 1OAK, and Knight was made to sit in the back of a police vehicle until an ambulance from Cedars Sinai Hospital came to the scene. As panic began to set in, one party-goer caught the aftermath on their phone, and the video quickly began to circulate online.

The video saw Chris Brown standing on the bar while people scattered. Another model in the bar was Chloe Lloyd, who sent out a tweet after the incident reading, “Me and @MOANNN sort refuge in a toilet cubicle as rifles targeted Chris brown & Bieber outside. #usa #bangunsintheusa”

Chris Brown also took to Twitter/X, writing, “It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the bullshit!!!”

The following morning, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that an investigation had begun and, while Knight remained in hospital, his family released a statement to Revolt reading, “The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media. Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood. He’s human. He’s done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole, so we ask that you respect that.”

Chris Brown’s management quickly distanced themselves from Knight and from the shooting with a statement reading, “Chris hosted an event in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the upcoming release of his album X, during which an incident occurred. This incident did not involve Chris; he was merely the host of the event. He has and will continue to cooperate with the investigation.”

No arrests were made and there was little cooperation from Knight. However, later that year, both Knight and comedian Katt Williams got arrested for aggravated assault and robbery for an attack on a paparazzi photographer in Beverly Hills.
