“We don’t do that”: Cardi B addresses comparisons to other rappers
As the bitter feud between Ice Spice and Cleotrapa continues to unfold, fans have suspected Cardi B might be experiencing a similar dynamic in her friendship with Star Brim. However, the rapper recently expressed her views on this on social media, explaining she doesn’t trust many, so all of her friendships are faultless.
Cleotrapa recently performed on Ice Spice’s Y2K! World Tour, which wraps up in Australia at the beginning of next year. The rapper accused Spice of mistreatment, to which she responded by accusing Spice of using her fame for personal benefit.
“The scary part of fame honestly is the moment that somebody feels like they can no longer use your platform or like they’re not getting exactly what they want out of a situation the way that they want it,” she said, claiming that “crashing out” is “sad”.
Rap battles have been a staple of the industry since its inception, and at any given time, we find ourselves caught in the middle of a feud between two of the hottest stars. However, a shift seems to have happened in recent years, with some figures taking their qualms further than simple diss tracks and bringing others into their messes.
This occurred when fans compared Cardi B’s relationship with Star Brim to Cleotrapa’s with Ice Spice. She then decided to stand her ground by insisting she wanted no part in the industry’s insatiable desire to constantly light fumes.
“Don’t compare my friendships, my situation to anybody’s shit,” Cardi B wrote on X. “That’s one. All of my friendships, even with the people I work with, are five-year plus.”
Calling out the racist undertones pervading the entire debate, she added: “I don’t know why y’all see me – a light-skin girl with a brown-skin, dark-skin girl – y’all wanna compare what I have with my friends with somebody else’s shit.” She concluded: “Don’t do that! Because we don’t do that.”
She added that her trust only extends so far, and Star Brim is included in her close-knit group of friends, a constant in her life since 2016. While Ice Spice and a host of other rappers continue to take jabs at each other for whatever reason, clearly Cardi B intends to stay out of it and focus on her own music.
