Watch The Weeknd interview an AI version of his younger self

Canadian singer The Weeknd has recently teamed up with fashion brand SSENSE, which launched on June 11th, and for a promotional video, the vocalist showed himself speaking to a younger version of himself generated by artificial intelligence.

The young AI-produced Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) told the adult him how he likes listening to music and singing, to which the adult Tesfaye responded, “You have a lot to look forward to,” before asking, “How is your relationship with God?”

The ten-year-old AI Tesfaye responded, “God is like my super cool friend who’s always there, you know?” The young kid revealed that his superpower is creating worlds in his head. He then proceeded to ask Tesfaye if he had any real-life superpowers of his own, to which he responded, “Probably being focused and a new power is my patience.”

According to the Instagram caption under the post, the trailer for SSENSE was created by “reconfiguring his body with Harmony Korine’s EDGLRD and uploading his former self to an OpenAI GPT.”

The Weeknd has been focusing a lot on themes of the future recently and, earlier this month, hinted at an upcoming partnership with the tech giant Apple. Although he didn’t delve into the details, Tesfaye posted a photo full of framed pictures of the Apple logo on the wall above a sofa, suggesting he was at the company’s headquarters.

Underneath the post, Tesfaye’s caption simply contained a googly-eyed emoji, a musical note emoji, and a film camera emoji, all of which suggested he may have been recording and taping a new music performance.

In January of this year, the “I Can’t Feel My Face” singer teased that he would be releasing a follow-up to his 2022 album Dawn FM after posting pictures of his last two albums and a question mark on Twitter/X.
