Watch Eminem and Slim Shady face off in hostile encounter
In his recent album, The Death of Slim Shady, Eminem killed off his alter-ego. However, it seems that wasn’t the last we’d see of the controversial rapper, as Slim Shady has made his grand return in a recent stand-off video.
The 11-minute clip sees the Detroit rapper argue with his former self over the validity of his lyrics, how his career would be without him and the differences between the two world views. Slim stands by the fact that Eminem wouldn’t be anything without him, while Eminem stands by the fact he was a product of his adverse circumstances and made things worse before they got better.
“Guess who’s back, back again,” says Slim Shady as his figure begins to glitch onto the chair next to Eminem, “Shady’s back, tell a friend,” he says before Eminem cuts him off and asks, “Are you gonna sing the whole song?”
Eminem begins by confronting his former self, asking why he has even bothered to return. Slim Shady responds in a way that has come to be predictable at this point, almost quoting lines from the moderately reviewed album and rehashing old jokes. “I’m back because you got your nuts tucked so tightly between your legs fucking Caitlyn Jenner would be jealous,” he says.
The duo make a series of references to different stars throughout the clip, including Richard Gere, Machine Gun Kelly, Ja Rule, Vanilla Ice, Fred Durst and Christina Aguilera. Slim Shady also gives Taylor Swift a shout out, as he tells Eminem, “You’re not fucking Taylor Swift, you had one era that mattered, mine.”
Drake’s song ‘Family Matters’ is also mentioned, as the two discuss the type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic and how people use it to lose weight. “I hear it’s got side effects of jealousy,” says Slim, mocking the lyric from ‘Family Matters’, which Eminem acknowledges calling Slim “BBL Slizzy.”
The talk is a much more in-depth and introspective look at Eminem’s complicated relationship with his former alter-ego. It ends with them quoting a video of Paul Rudd on the YouTube series Hot Ones, as the two decide to settle their differences and say, “Look at us. Hey, look at us. Who would’ve thought? Not me.”
The Death of Slim Shady was Eminem’s 12th studio album and the numbers spoke for themselves. The rapper received his tenth consecutive Billboard 200 topper as the album debuted with 281,000 album equivalent sales in the very first week of its release.
