Update shared on Diddy’s Hollywood walk of fame star
With the controversies in his private life refusing to go away, many have been left to wonder whether or not Diddy’s star on Hollywood’s walk of fame should – or will – be removed.
The rapper and music mogul has been no stranger to controversy in recent years, with a lawsuit being filed against him November 2023 by ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, accusing him of rape, sexual trafficking, and physical abuse.
A settlement was reached between the two, but the resurfacing of a video that showed Diddy assaulting her at a hotel in Los Angeles led to the release of an apology video, where the musician described his actions as “inexcusable.”
The backlash has been fierce and ongoing, though, compounded by the additional legal action that’s been taken against him regarding historical sexual assaults in the early 1990s, with more suits being filed to keep the allegations mounting up against him.
In March 2024, Diddy’s properties in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami were raided by the federal government, leading many industry figures to publicly decry the once-popular star. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if his star on the walk of fame will be rescinded.
In a statement shared with TMZ, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce – the organisation that nominates the recipient of a star as well as overseeing their manufacture and installation with approval from the city of Los Angeles – revealed that it doesn’t have the requisite authority to state the case for their removal.
That means for the time being, Diddy’s star will remain where it is, although history as shown there’s a likelihood it could end up being vandalised. After all, Donald Trump and Bill Cosby still have their stars on full display on the walk of fame, and people have taken it upon themselves to deface them.
That’s not to say it can’t or won’t happen eventually, but for the time being, the people in charge of overseeing everything on the walk of fame from the nominees to the unveiling ceremony don’t have the legislative means to lobby for any single star being removed from its place on the pavement.
As it stands, then, even with his reputation lying in tatters and no sign of the litigation against him drawing to a conclusion, Diddy’s star will remain exactly where it is for the foreseeable future, unless a special case is made either by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce or those determined to see it taken off the concrete.
