Tyler The Creator teases announcement of new album ‘Chromakopia’
Tyler The Creator is one of the most exciting artists in hip-hop, a position he’s held for over a decade. Last year, the Los Angeles rapper released his project, Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale, to great critical acclaim and, to this day, the figure remains at the forefront of alternative rap music.
Widely considered one of the most creative minds in contemporary hip-hop, his music alone reveals that he draws on a vast, eclectic array of influences to bring us the fantastic material he does. From Goblin to IGOR and Flower Boy, the emcee and producer has sampled many acts, from the English rock band Czar to Japan’s Tatsuro Yamashita; his knowledge knows no bounds.
That said, the emcee has decided to tease the release of a new album. Earlier this year, the California artist went on a rant telling fans that he was prioritising acting over music for the time being, saying on social media, “I wanna be an actor LMFAO.”
However, he has now released a new teaser entitled ‘ST. CHROMA’, which appears to be the first track of an album rollout campaign. For the song, Tyler dropped a short music video which showed the word “Chromakopia” at the end. Therefore, this has been assumed as the title of Tyler’s next album. On the song, he raps in a whispered tone about being in the “top ten” and the “hottest in this b*tch.”
The emcee’s fans immediately headed to the video’s comments section in droves, praising the artist. One user wrote, “Tyler wasn’t kidding when he said he wanted to work in film and cinematography; the production of this teaser is incredible, even though it’s so short.” While another posted, “This gonna be the craziest Tyler album yet. Just this teaser is fire! (literally). Tyler never disappoints.”
Chromakopia will be Tyler’s first full-length album since the critically acclaimed Call Me If You Get Lost. The project earned him a Grammy Award for ‘Best Rap Album’. The 2023 follow-up The Estate Sale served as a deluxe version of the original. Since last year’s project, he has performed live at Coachella and more.
The announcement comes only months after he trolled fans asking for a new album. When his former Odd Future collaborator Steve Lacy also complained on social media about fans asking him for a new project, Tyler commented, “I feel you. Sh*t is annoying, especially when I never said out my mouth an album was coming.”
