Tyler, The Creator releases new song ‘NOID’ ahead of new album
Tyler, The Creator continues to tease fans about his new album, Chromakopia, which is set for release on October 28th. The rapper has now released the new track, ‘NOID’, which gives fans the most in-depth glimpse at the record’s sound and the new persona that Tyler has assumed for the project.
The track was released on YouTube on October 21st and stands as the longest snippet of the album so far. It is a heavy listen, with a three-chord distorted guitar running throughout and a chorus sung in a language called Chewa, which is spoken in Malawi and Zambia. The track seems to touch on feelings of paranoia that accompany Tyler’s increased success in recent years.
The video continues to play into these feelings of paranoia. The new, faceless, mask-wearing character that Tyler has embodied for this series finds himself in a crowd of angry people while fans run up to him and hold up guns, show love and attempt to kiss him. The whole video plays as an interesting look at the hysterical nature of fans and how often that can cross a line.
It’s exciting to see Tyler embrace this new creative angle. While he has seen a lot of success in recent years with his albums IGOR and Call Me If You Get Lost, he has never been an artist insistent on remaining stagnant. With every album, he delves into a new concept, style (visually and musically), and era, but this hasn’t changed with success. The sound of these new songs varies wildly from that of the previous album, and though Call Me If You Get Lost was a fan favourite, people will be excited about seeing a new side of the rapper.
On October 16th, Tyler announced he would release a new album on October 28th. This came as a surprise to some fans, as he had previously been online telling people that no new album was on the way as he pursued other creative endeavours. “I wanna be an actor LMFAO,” he wrote in an Instagram comment.
A lot about the album is still shrouded in mystery. Fans everywhere are speculating over what the deeper meaning of the album title and character appearance could be. Tyler isn’t an artist willing to hold back creatively, and it’s gotten to the point that people are willing to spend hours looking over small details in the upcoming release that could give clues about what they can expect.
This new song comes shortly after the release of ‘ST CHROMA’, a small snippet Tyler released when he initially announced the new album.
Chromakopia is set for release on October 28th. Until then, listen to the new song ‘NOID’ below.
