Tyler, the Creator shares new track and video ‘Lumberjack’

After the constant teasing over the last week, Tyler, the Creator has finally returned with his fresh track, ‘Lumberjack’.

The rumours of his return started with a series of billboards across Los Angeles that read: “Call me if you get lost” and also lists a phone number beneath for people to call. If you call the digits, you’ll hear an automated voice recording and an instrumental track.

The clip is an exchange of Tyler and his mother, who is doting about the love she holds for her son. “I’ll stand in front of a bullet, on God, over this one… I walked up on teachers, principals, mommas, kids, I don’t give a fuck. Am I lying?” Tyler’s mother seems to ask in the clip, to which the rapper responds, “You have no reason to.”

Then he shared two clips on social media titled, ‘Side Street’, which see Tyler kissing a woman before entering a pink car and driving off. Then Odd Future’s Taco Bennett arrives and appears to be the woman’s partner. He asks, “Baby, who was that?”. The videos are identical, apart from the fact that Tyler drives off in a different direction in each clip. A card emerges at the end of both clips, which reads, ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’.

At long last, the wait is over, and Tyler has shared his new track, ‘Lumberjack’, which is a broody effort from the Odd Future rapper. Although it’s only two minutes long, it’s full of intrigue, and the phrase ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ pops up again at the end of the visuals.

The new single from Tyler also samples Gravediggaz’s ‘2 Cups of Blood’ and frequent ad-libs from DJ Drama. ‘Lumberjack’ sees Tyler return home to his rap roots after predominantly singing on his last album, Igor, and it feels good to have him back, taking it old-school.
