Tyler, The Creator’s festival set cancelled after two people killed

Tyler, The Creator was set to perform at the AXE Ceremonia music festival in Mexico City on April 6th. However, the show was cancelled after two people were killed in a crane fall.

A pair of photographers, Miguel Ángel Rojas and Citlali Berenice Giles, lost their lives after a metal structure, described as a “decorative piece,” collapsed due to a wind gust.

The Associated Press and El Universal reported the news. According to the public health services agency, IMSS-Bienestar, Rojas and Giles were taken to Dr. Rubén Leñero General Hospital, where they were diagnosed with cranioencephalic trauma and various fractures. The victims received cardiopulmonary resuscitation, having arrived at the hospital with no vital signs.

The final day of the festival was cancelled as a result of the tragic incident. “With deep sadness, we confirm the passing of the two people who were injured during today’s incident,” AXE Ceremonia said in a statement. “We are deeply heartbroken by this loss. We are reaching out to their families to support them during this incredibly difficult time and to provide them with all our care and solidarity.”

They added, “The safety of our community has always been our priority, and we continue, as from the very beginning, to maintain close collaboration and complete transparency with the authorities.”

Along with Tyler, the line-up for AXE Ceremonia included Lil Yachty, Charli XCX, Massive Attack, Parcels, Gesaffelstein, FKA Twigs, AG Cook, Barry Can’t Swim, and many other artists.

Tyler completed the first leg of Chromakopia: The World Tour on April 1st, which included shows across North America. The second leg will begin later this month with European performances, including Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and London.

He’ll return to the US in early June for more shows before concluding the tour in September in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines.
