Tyler, The Creator admits he wrote his Clipse verse 100 times

Tyler, The Creator featured on Clipse’s comeback album Let God Sort Em Out earlier this month. The verse was so important to the Los Angeles rapper that he wrote it up to 100 times before being happy with his work.

Tyler appears on ‘P.O.V.’, the third track on the album, produced by Pharrell. Working with three of his heroes got the best of him, and he felt the pressure while recording his verse. So much so, he didn’t know if he could deliver something worthy enough.

During his recent appearance on Hot 97, he said, “It took me about 79 to 100 times to do it, and I almost texted Pusha, ‘I don’t think this is gonna work.’ It’s been a few times I’ve gotten nervous, and trying to nail that verse with two of my Mount Rushmores, produced by Mount Rushmore, was like, ‘I can’t fuck this up for me.’

“It took me so long to write that and just trying to perfect it. Was really in that bitch sweating. That n*gga Pusha sent me that before I went on tour, probably in April, and I ain’t get him that shit until end of May, early June.”

He added, “I was trying to record that verse for so long. Then it came out and people liked it. When I did not fuck up the song, n*gga, ooh.”

Let God Sort Em Out debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart with other features from Kendrick Lamar and Nas.

In Tyler’s verse, he raps, “I’m like white bitches the way I pop shit/ I need God to play the lead in my biopic/ The curse of the zeros/ When you become the Devil or the tap dancing negro/ I came to terms that I’ma probably outgrow my heroes/ Come get with me.”

Tyler released his Don’t Tap the Glass album on July 21st. It topped the Billboard 200 chart after a shorter tracking week, arriving on a Monday instead of a Friday.
