Tyler, The Creator accused of copying another rapper’s song on new album
Tyler, The Creator returned with his new album, Don’t Tap the Glass, on July 21st. However, the Odd Future rapper has been accused of ripping off another song on one of the 10 tracks.
The fourth song on the album, ‘Mommanem’, is the shortest on the project at one minute and 15 seconds.
Virginia rapper $ilkMoney, a member of the group Divine Council, has called out Tyler for allegedly copying his song ‘My Potna Dem’, which appeared on his 2019 album, G.T.F.O.M.D: There’s Not Enough Room for All You Motha Fuckas to Be on It Like This.
$ilkMoney worked with Tyler on ‘Naga’ in 2018. He also called out Outkast legend André 3000, with whom he famously collaborated on the ‘December’ remix.
“Tyler, The Creator, stop sucking my dick n*gga,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “Get your own swag. André 3000, stop sucking my dick. I’m sick of you little weird ass n*ggas that I work with thinking you can run off with the swag. Stop eating dick. You weird ass n*ggas. Do you baby, I’m tryna do me.”
He continued, “All you n*ggas get off my dick in my DMs. Fuck you and this n*gga. Nobody talking about titles. This n*gga copying ‘My Potna Dem.’ Eat a dick. Fuck you bitches. I said what I said. Ion need you to feel me. Reach for these nuts.”
Tyler has yet to respond to his claims. ‘My Potna Dem’ is one of $ilkMoney’s biggest songs, boasting over 117 million Spotify streams and a music video with four million YouTube views.
Don’t Tap the Glass arrived with just a few days’ warning, following last year’s Chromakopia album. Tyler said about the self-produced project, “This album was not made for sitting still. Dancing, driving, running, any type of movement is recommended to maybe understand the spirit of it. Only at full volume.”
