Ty Dolla $ign once revealed the “greatest rapper of all time”
Ty Dolla $ign had a resurgence in 2024 after Kanye West announced that he would work with the singer for a collaborative album, Vultures. The two artists concealed themselves for months as they worked on the project. However, the highly anticipated body of work did not land very well.
Still, the Vultures 1 and Vultures 2 weren’t released under the respective artists names but was dropped as unde the moniker ¥$, a supergroup. With appearances from the likes of Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Quavo, YG, Lil Durk and more, West called upon the biggest and best MCs to make Vultures 1 hit harder. Still, it wasn’t quite up to scratch for many.
Vultures 1 appeared on streaming platforms in the middle of the night with no notice, and fans woke up to a surprise from Ty Dolla $ign. Still, his reemergence after years in the background was exciting for many. Furthermore, only last month he announced that a Vultures 3 album with Kanye West is still in the works.
The R&B and hip-hop fusion act first emerged in the early 2010s when he released ‘Toot It And Boot It’. He then began working with Wiz Khalifa as a Taylor Gang Entertainment signee. Ty Dolla $ign has been around hip-hop his whole life and has, of course, worked with many rappers in his career.
Whether it’s Future, YG or Lil Wayne, he knows a thing or two about rap, and in an interview, he once unveiled who he believes is the greatest rapper of all time. Speaking with Hot Freestyle, the West Coast vocalist revealed that Eminem is his top emcee of all time.
While singing Slim Shady’s praises, Ty Dolla $ign made a subtle plea for a collaboration, stating, “Eminem is the greatest rapper of all time. I have not done a song with Eminem yet. Which I would love to do. He’s the GOAT for sure.”
Funnily enough, as an Eminem fan, Ty Dolla $ign revealed he sees Em as two distinct MCs, telling the host, “I always said like the only rapper that I think is better than Eminem is Slim Shady. So yeah, it will happen for sure. What up, Em? Holla at me.”
Still, although Eminem hasn’t worked with Ty Dolla $ign yet, it may be possible as the LA singer once worked with the late Nate Dogg who Eminem worked with extensively. Furthermore, Snoop Dogg once called Ty Dolla $ign a reincarnation of Nate Dogg, meaning he already has respect from many greats.
Speaking to Power 106, Ty Dolla expressed how honoured he was to be told that, declaring, “I feel blessed, I feel honoured. I feel like Nate Dogg was carrying a huge torch, and he passed it down. I just talked to my other homie that told me that he talked to Snoop on his birthday, and Snoop said that. Snoop said I’m the reincarnation of Nate Dogg. When I heard that, I was like, alright, Snoop saying it? That means everything, man. Like I said, it’s an honour.”
