Travis Scott reveals influences for his “fucking amazing” new album
Travis Scott is teasing his new album by revealing the artists who are currently influencing him.
The Houston rapper may star in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey movie, but his newfound acting career isn’t getting in the way of music.
During a recent interview with Variety, Scott reassured his commitment to music while hyping up his new project.
“I’m here to conquer who I am as an artist,” he said.” In these side quests – these cool things I like to do – I never lose sight of the main goal. I’m still trying to do every stadium in the United States and the world.”
He continued, “I’m working on an album right now, and that’s fucking amazing. And I’m constantly pushing myself to push the sonics to try to make something that I haven’t made before.”
Scott went on to reveal that Parliament, Oasis, Don Toliver, Raphael Saadiq, Daft Punk, and Van Halen have served as inspiration, citing the latter’s “mega-choruses and hard bass lines.”
Speaking on taking inspiration from live shows, he said, “I’m like, OK, I need to double down on trying to make something that can reach the person that’s all the way back in the bowl, so how do I reach them like the person that’s right next to me. So that’s what I’m on – trying to elevate the show to a more theatre aspect.”
He added, “Stay tuned on how that’s going to happen. Utopia was supposed to be a play. I want to try to bring back true experiences before they try to take them all down and make everything digital.”
Utopia was released in July 2023, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with features from Drake, Beyoncé, 21 Savage, The Weeknd, SZA, Future, and many others.
