Travis Scott explains how he was cast in ‘The Odyssey’

Travis Scott has explained how he was cast in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

The Houston rapper stars in Nolan’s new movie, out on July 17th, that follows the heroic king of Ithaca, Odysseus.

Scott plays the role of the bard in the court of Ithaca, alongside an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson.

The film had its world premiere in London on July 6th, with its stars hitting the red carpet in Leicester Square. One of those was Scott, who went into detail about how he ended up starring in The Odyssey.

“I just got a call from Nolan,” he told Deadline. “We had this crazy idea. And I was like, ‘Yo, I’m down to rock, however you want to do it.’ So, yeah. It’s crazy.”

Scott went into detail about his relationship with Nolan and how his last album took him on a similar path.

“My last album, Utopia, was based on a travelling experience on mad different plateaus across the world,” he said. “I landed in Circus Maximus and Pompeii. So I think through that, communicating, working with him, and just building with him as a mentorship, it felt like we kind of felt the same way, just for what music is.”

He continued, “And as an artist, how you can deliver the story, so it’s kind of interesting to see it come to life. I’m ready for people to see it.”

Nolan, who previously recruited Scott for the original song ‘The Plan’ in his Tenet movie in 2020, also explained his casting.

“I cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap,” he said.
