Travis Scott promises to donate $5 million for community initiatives

As he continues to seek redemption following the Astroworld tragedy, Travis Scott has promised to donate $5 million towards community initiatives.

Scott has announced the launch of Project HEAL through his Cactus Jack Foundation and announced the first four tiers of funding. They will be donating to the US Conference of Mayors Task Force on Event Safety to help with safety at live events.

Additionally, there will also be a focus on a tech-driven approach. Scott also promises to work with key figures in the tech sector and people in government, emergency response, event management, health and public safety to create a “comprehensive report of recommendations”.

Project HEAL promises to be a “multi-tier initiative dedicated to addressing challenges facing today’s youth, especially those from marginalized and at-risk communities. Initiatives that will be funded through the Project include academic scholarships, mental health resources, a creative design centre and “tech-driven solutions for event safety”.

In a statement on Instagram, Scott said: “Over the past few months I’ve been taking the time and space to grieve, reflect and do my part to heal my community. Most importantly, I want to use my resources and platform moving forward towards actionable change. This will be a lifelong journey for me and my family.

“While it’s easy for corporations and institutions to stay in the shadows, I feel as a leader in my community, I need to step up in times of need. My team and I created Project HEAL to take much needed action towards supporting real solutions that make all events the safest spaces they can possibly be.”

He continued: “I will always honor the victims of the Astroworld tragedy who remain in my heart forever. Giving back and creating opportunities for the youth is something I’ve always done and will continue to do as long as I have the chance.”
