The craziest place Travis Scott has smoked weed: “I am a drug sober”
Travis Scott has never been big into drugs, despite what the public perception might be. The Houston rapper may have songs about getting high, but he claims not to take anything other than controlled substances. The one thing he admits to smoking is weed, and he’s blazed up in some crazy places over the years.
Scott once participated in an interview that included questions from big names such as Björk and his hero, Kid Cudi. One of the questions revolved around model Bella Hadid asking Scott the craziest place he’d ever gotten high.
After a bit of thought, he told SHOWstudio, “Ha! I got it, I got it. Bob Dylan’s tour bus, parked up in Rick Rubin’s backyard.” Dylan’s former tour bus is famously located at Rubin’s Shangri-La recording studio in Malibu, California. The place has been used by Kanye West, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, and many other artists.
When Scott was asked to explain how drugs play a part in his creative process, he denied taking hard drugs and using anything to unlock his creativity. “Shit man, I don’t do a lot of drugs, so I don’t even know,” he said. “I only think real drugs are like crack, heroin, fucking like, you know, meth, shit that like gets you fucked up, really gets you tweaking. If you ain’t doing that, then you ain’t doing drugs. Personally, like, if you ain’t doing acid and shit like that, then you ain’t doing drugs, so I can’t tell you about any of that shit.”
He also claimed it’s “weak” that people need to take substances to activate their creative side. “I think knowledge is power, where drugs is just like a mental cool-down,” he explained. “They just put me at ease. I don’t tap into drugs to like, say what’s on my mind, I can do that shit sober. I am a drug sober, you know what I’m saying? I’m the most mental, I’m the most highest potent drug sober, ever. Drugs is what actually calm me down.”
During another interview with Billboard, Scott revealed his frustrations about being seen as a heavy drug user. “It stresses me out because people think I’m on a lot of drugs, which fucking pisses me off,” he said. “I’m not at all. I barely drink alcohol, and I smoke weed, kind of. But I don’t do coke or any of that crazy-ass shit.”
Scott once released a song called ‘Drugs You Should Try It’, which appeared on his Days Before Rodeo mixtape in 2014. Produced by Scott, Mike Dean, FKi 1st, and Charlie Handsome, the psychedelic track explores drug use and falling in love.
In the chorus, he sings, “I try it if it feels right/ This feels nice I’ve been down and lost for days/ Glad I found you on the way/ When the day gets brighter, the night gets nighter/ I always feel this way/ Through the hills I hear you callin’, miles and miles away.” Scott also has another huge record called ‘Highest in the Room’, which went to number one on the Hot 100.
