Tory Lanez suffers setback in Megan Thee Stallion shooting case
Tory Lanez recently claimed he had new evidence to help his case after he was sentenced to ten years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot, a new development had emerged.
In 2020, Tory Lanez was charged with shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. He was found guilty of the shooting in 2022 and eventually sentenced in 2023. He is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for the crime, which the rapper is continuing to try to fight. However, his latest plea is seemingly to now avail.
Following an investigation by LA County police, the artist was found guilty in December, 2022, of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a concealed, loaded, and unregistered firearm and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Lanez has since been held in North Kern State Prison and won’t be released for several more years after being found guilty. He recently asked the authorities to read out a statement from his driver, Jauquan Smith, who alleged that Megan’s friend, Kelsey Harris, was the person holding the gun.
Despite the latest advancement, according to HipHopDX, the California Attorney General’s Office are refusing to accept Smith’s statement. In the affidavit, Smith claimed to be unsure who shot the gun, which is why Deputy Attorney General, Michael C Keller doesn’t believe it warrants a review of the guilty verdict.
Furthermore, his decision was made due to a prior undisclosed statement made by Lanez’s previous lawyer, George Mgdesyan.
In a statement, Keller explained: “We came to the conclusion that we’re not gonna call him, because, obviously, his testimony is gonna be putting the gun in the hands of Kelsey. And that’s what he told all of us when we just did an interview upstairs. At this point my position was that the jury believes our theory.”
He also said that “adding another person to say who has some connections to you as a security or friend or whatever they may link up, isn’t going to do anything”.
Additionally, Keller said as Smith doesn’t know who pulled the trigger that his statement “does not directly contradict (Megan)’s testimony that petitioner (Lanez) was the person who shot her”. He also highlighted DNA results and texts as proof as to why he concluded Lanez pulled the trigger.
