Tory Lanez loses appeal over Megan Thee Stallion shooting conviction
A court has denied Tory Lanez after he appealed his guilty verdict over charges he shot Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence at California Men’s Colony near San Luis Obispo, after previously being behind bars at North Kern State Prison in Delano.
He was convicted of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in 2022.
On November 12th, three judges from the California 2nd District Court of Appeal affirmed Lanez’s three felony counts.
“We find no prejudicial error and, accordingly, affirm Peterson’s conviction,” they ruled, according to Rolling Stone. “As we find no ineffective assistance of counsel or prejudicial trial court error, we also find no cumulative error.”
Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) was stabbed 14 times by another inmate in May, which resulted in both of his lungs collapsing and him being transferred to a hospital in Bakersfield, California.
In July, his father, Sonstar Peterson, claimed he would be released from prison early. He’s scheduled to be released in 2033, but will be eligible for parole in 2029.
“I wouldn’t go on record giving a date right now,” his dad said. “What I will say is that there are movements happening in the background. The powers that be can clearly see that this was a hatchet job. They can see, based on the evidence, or should I say lack of, everybody can see that.”
He continued, “There are things happening right now. Like I said, I think it is much sooner than a lot of people would think. Much sooner than later. He’s coming home.”
