Toronto mayor reveals excitement for Drake’s ‘Iceman’ album
The mayor of Toronto has shared her excitement for Drake‘s new album following the takedown of his ice sculpture.
Drizzy recently launched an ice sculpture in his hometown, putting the release date for his Iceman album inside.
However, the sculpture was hosed down on April 22nd due to safety concerns after fans came out with pickaxes.
During a recent press conference, Toronto mayor Olivia Chow addressed the authorities’ decision to remove the sculpture while revealing her love of Drake.
“The fire chief made the decision last night, and I support his decisions, and I support his decisions” she said. “His responsibility is people’s safety, and you will have to ask him what are the safety concerns that he has. Folks climbed it. I’ve seen them doing all types of things. It is our responsibility to make sure people are safe.”
She added, “Drake is a big supporter of our city, and there’s so much excitement across our city towards this new Drake album, the Iceman. I’m excited too. It’s gonna be a great summer.”
In a statement on April 21st, Toronto Fire Services Chief Jim Jessop explained why he made the decision to take down the sculpture.
“As Toronto’s fire chief, my top priority is keeping Torontonians safe,” he said. “Large numbers of individuals [had] gathered to attempt to melt the ice using flammable liquids, and open flames in an uncontrolled environment which results in an immediate threat to life.”
A spokesperson added, “Further work to remove the large ice blocks will be handled privately by the event organisers.”
Iceman will be released on May 15th, serving as his first solo album in three years following 2023’s For All the Dogs.
