Timbaland inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame by Missy Elliot

One of his closest collaborators, Missy Elliot, has inducted Timbaland into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The producer and media mogul was among the honourees at this year’s event.

Welcomed into the class of 2024, Timbaland was given his flowers by Missy Elliot, a fellow inductee from 2019, in a ceremony in New York. The two musicians have worked closesly with one another throughout their respective careers.

Hollywood Reporter shared that the producer would thank many of his collaborators, including Jay-Z, the late Aaliyah and Justin Timberlake, with whom he shared the credits on the mammoth hit ‘Cry Me A River’. Timbaland’s collaborations with the former N-Sync singers on albums like FutureSex/LoveSounds and The 20/20 Experience solidified his mainstream success

Despite an impressive solo career and signature style, the producer was keen to share his success with Missy Elliot and credited her for his worldwide success, sharing, “I owe my career to Missy Elliott.”

Humble and gracious in his acceptance, he finished his speech by saying, “Thanks for giving me a seat at the table—I’ve been waiting a long time.”

Timbaland wasn’t the only honouree at this year’s event. SZA was given the Hal David Starlight Award in light of her work as a young performer. “I’m just beyond all of my wildest dreams,” SZA explained in her acceptance speech for the award.

“I’m just so grateful,” she continued. “Thank you for seeing me. I swear, I’ll be like, ‘Oh I wrote this and I wrote that. And [people would] be like, ‘OK,’ especially if you’re a woman, especially if you’re a Black woman. So to win this… It just means the world.”
