Superbad, the coming-of-age, gross-out comedy film released in 2007, is widely considered to be a classic today. Not only has it firmly achieved cult status in the years since its release, but it has also pierced and shaped the mainstream.

Superbad marked the beginning of so many genuinely A-list careers. It was Emma Stone’s first movie, while it transformed its leads Jonah Hill and Michael Cera into stars. It solidified Seth Rogen, who co-wrote it alongside Evan Goldberg, as a giant of comedy filmmaking, while Bill Hadar became recognisable to a whole new swathe of fans. Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who had never appeared in a film before, became forever associated with his McLovin character.

Rogen and Goldberg wrote the screenplay when they were teenagers, based loosely around their own experiences growing up. Rogen was meant to appear as the character based on him, but, by the time it came to actually getting the movie he made, he’d become too old to play a high school student. Hill was cast as the character instead, while Rogen took on the role of the older cop character.

The film was unexpectedly a hit upon release. It was well reviewed by the critics, while the public went to see it in their droves. Against a fairly modest budget, Superbad did extremely well at the box office and proved to be a hugely profitable film. In the nearly 20 years since its release, its status as a cult classic and legendary teen comedy movie has only hardened.

Superbad has legions of truly dedicated fans who, more or less, can recite every line of dialogue. Some of those stans happen to be profoundly famous in their own right, as Rogen himself is well aware of.

During an interview with Complex, Rogen revealed that, at one point in time, he shared a personal trainer with Kanye West. Their sessions would sometimes overlap, leading to one very odd scene in which Rogen was forced to work out with Ye in attendance. But rather than wait patiently for his turn, Ye was feeling talkative.

Ye, according to hip-hop fan Rogen, “literally just stood right next to me reciting scenes from Superbad word for word.” For 20 minutes this apparently went on, which, presumably, was far from optimal for a man trying to work out.

Not only that, but Rogen also went on to speak about a job he once had with Eminem, who, like Ye, was also a big fan of Rogen’s film. Em claimed to “know the entire movie Superbad word for word,” and he duly set off to prove it.

Even if Em had failed to recite the dialogue word for word, he has proven his love for Superbad in other ways. Right at the end of his track ‘Ballin’ Uncontrollably,’ Em raps, “Listen, I am McLovin, yeah / McLovin in the house! McLovin in the house! Yeah!” He also mentioned McLovin on his remix of Diddy’s track ‘Hello Good Morning.’
