The 2007 film Eminem thinks is the best movie of all time

Eminem’s sense of humour was always front and centre of his work, especially during the early days. As has been especially evident from his music videos, he has a natural instinct for comedy.

It stands to reason, then, that Eminem’s favourite film would be a funny one. As reported by Unilad back in 2023, Em’s number one film is apparently the 2007 teen buddy comedy Superbad.

That was the claim made publicly by one of the movie’s own stars, Jonah Hill, who was hanging out with Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards way back in 2009. The pair spoke to MTV about their mutual respect for each other, with Hill claiming that Em’s favourite movie “ever, of all time,” is Superbad.

Hill even insisted that Em “quotes all the scenes” at him, with the rapper seemingly knowing lines by heart. It’s quite a claim to suggest that Em loved the film that much, to be fair to Hill, there is evidence to suggest it’s true.

On Em’s song ‘Ballin’ Uncontrollably,’ which was leaked as part of the Straight from the Lab Part 2 compilation in 2011, several lines of dialogue from the film are featured in the outro, albeit with the pitch raised to a squeak.

Eminem even slipped a Superbad reference into another song, this time his verse on the remix of Diddy’s ‘Hello Good Morning.’ Referring to the iconic character played by Christopher Charles Mintz-Plasse, Em raps, “I’m more like Fogell, McLovin.”

Em’s connection to Superbad doesn’t quite stop there. Seth Rogen, who co-wrote and starred in the comedy, and whom Jonah Hill’s character was loosely based on, revealed in his book Yearbook that he had actually auditioned to appear in Em’s film 8 Mile as the character Cheddar Bob.

It did not go well. It was, Rogen recalled, the “weirdest audition I ever did,” as he and everyone else auditioning for the part were told in advance to bring a friend along to run lines with. This was not, it must be said, a normal situation.

He went with his friend Jason Segel, who, incidentally, was also vying for the role. The pair found the experience so strange that they ended up succumbing to a fit of giggles, and they couldn’t even finish the audition. They left, unsuccessful, but things worked out for everyone in the end.
