The female rapper Ice Spice called “entitled”

Ice Spice and her career has been somewhat of a hot topic in hip-hop recently. Since 2023, it has been reported the ‘Munch’ rhymer has lost approximately 25 million monthly Spotify listeners and, following the release of her debut album Y2K!, many are questioning not only her relevance but her legitimacy as an artist.

Although Y2K! Debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200, the project sold a  modest 28,000 units in its first week, which is not bad for an artist of her calibre. Still, with the backing of a major label and the option to pre-order the album ten months prior to its release, it proved disappointing to her and her team.

Part of the Bronx emcee’s slow decline in recent months has been a glimpse of her personality behind-the-scenes. More specifically her treatment of fellow female rapper and former friend Cleotrapa.

The two artists had been close before the release of Y2K! However, when Ice Spice asked Cleotrapa to accompany her on a tour of the US, the ‘Deli’ rapper allegedly used her in a “calculated” way.

According to Cleotrapa she was only given a day to prepare for the tour, was not included in the official tour promo, and was mistreated by Ice Spice. She was allegedly denied a dressing room by Ice Spice and forced to pay for her own accomadation.

This treatment culminated in a back and forth between the two on social media, where Cleotrapa wrote, You actually have one time to show me that you are jealous, intimidated, untrustworthy, fake, disloyal, ingenuine, manipulative, and calculated.”

Ice Spice rose to fame incredibly quickly through viral clips on TikTok, but upon hitting the mainstream there was uproar in hip-hop. Akin to when Iggy Azalea entered the fray in 2012, true fans have called out Ice Spice’s inability to perform tracks live and consistently poor lyrics. There has been outrage that she has been allowed to consistently bolster her tracks with features from MCs such as Nicki Minaj.

Despite this, due to her rapid rise in popularity since 2022 Ice Spice has insisted that, regardless of her despicable treatment of Cleotrapa, the Brooklyn artist should be grateful.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ‘Popa’ rhymer wrote, “Crashing out is sad you guys! The scary part of fame honestly is the moment that somebody feels like they can no longer use your platform or like they’re not getting exactly what they want out of a situation the way that they want it.”

She concluded, “That’s when they decide to crash out every single time. I’m noticing a pattern. You got less than 10,000 listeners and I’m sharing my stage with you,” she added. “And you feeling so entitled.”

Ice Spice’s feuds with Nicki Minaj, Latto and other female rappers combined with a 10-track LP that only showcased six new songs has led to a mass exodus of followers on social media and as mentioned a steep decline in listeners.
