Ice Spice gives fans a twerk-filled music video for 'Deli'

Bronx female rapper Ice Spice has given fans a twerk-filled music video as she releases her latest single ‘Deli’. The emcee recently appeared alongside Nicki Minaj for a drill rendition of Aqua’s ‘Barbie World,’ but has now returned to what she does best with her latest track.

Ice Spice burst onto the scene last year with her viral song ‘Munch’, which she released through WorldStarHipHop. The 23-year-old artist (real name Isis Gaston) admitted she had never been in a recording studio until the end of 2021 but has suddenly become one of the most prevalent New York rappers.

Last year, Gaston performed at Drake’s OVO Fest and, ever since, has continued to grow in popularity. Following ‘Munch’ Ice Spice released singles such as ‘Bikini Bottom’ and ‘In Ha Mood’, and finally, her EP, Like..?, debuted at 37 on the Billboard 200.

This latest single, produced by RiotUSA, sees the festival artist return to New York to take over a classic Deli with an entourage of twerking girls and local New York kids joining in with seductive dance routines and blinding jewellery.

Directed by herself and George and Frederick Buford, the visuals of ‘Deli’ not only see Gaston takeover a Bodega but also features snazzy scenes of the musician inside a party bus.

Earlier this month, Ice Spice released the deluxe edition of her Like..? EP which featured an additional four new tracks. The exclusive unreleased songs included, ‘How High?,’ ‘Butterfly Ku,’ ‘On The Radar,’ and of course, the highlight, ‘Deli.’ In just one year, Gaston has managed to achieve four top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 ‘Karma,’ ‘Princess Diana,’ ‘Barbie World’ and ‘Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2.’

Despite her success, many in the culture have criticised Gaston for her poor dynamism and lack of energy when performing live. Others have criticised her label for selecting her because she had a popular track on TikTok, claiming she’s not a real artist and doesn’t have the necessary skills to provide music with longevity.
