Texas rapper Erica Banks arrested on drug charges

Texas rapper Erica Banks has been arrested on drug charges. The star of Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta was taken into custody on December 8th.

The 27-year-old (real name Erica Breaux) was detained by Brookhaven police during a traffic stop, with officers allegedly finding drugs.

According to CBS News, Banks was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Banks was stopped on Buford Highway in Atlanta. She was released from jail on the day of her arrest, although bond details are unknown.

TMZ reports that an officer noticed a tinted tag covering a licence plate, which is against the law. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was marked as stolen.

Officers allegedly found MDMA in Banks’ purse, while marijuana was found on the driver, Amani Dirton.

The incident marks the second time she has been arrested in the city this year. In August, Banks was charged with theft by receiving stolen property after being detained at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

She was taken to Clayton County Jail for possessing a stolen gun. At the North Checkpoint, the X-ray machine detected a gun inside Banks’ Louis Vuitton bag on the conveyor belt.

The rapper claimed she didn’t know the Smith and Wesson was in the bag, with police alleging it was stolen from Greensville, South Carolina, in 2018.

Banks joined the cast of VH1 reality television series Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta in 2023. She has over 642,000 monthly Spotify listeners and is best known for her single ‘Buss It’, which has 158 million streams. A remix of the hit song also features Travis Scott.
