Following conditional release violations Tekashi 6ix9ine will now return to jail

Following several violations of the conditional release Tekashi 6ix9ine was granted in 2020; the controversial Brooklyn emcee will return to federal prison. The rapper was released in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and many in the hip-hop world were unhappy with his return to music. However, he has now been sentenced to one-and-a-half months in prison.

The Flatbush musician was arrested on October 30th for several unspecified violations of his supervised release. However, in a recent court appearance, the emcee reportedly pleaded with the judge for a lenient sentence, stating, “I don’t want to go back in the box.”

The presiding US District Court Judge Paul Engelmayer responded to the ‘KOODA’ rapper’s pleas, insisting, “Your breach of the court’s trust is profound,” he said. “Five violations say to me that you believe the rules don’t apply to you. Maybe you believe that because you’re a famous rapper, Tekashi 6ix9ine?”

After getting involved with the Nine Trey Bloods gang in Brooklyn, Tekashi was found guilty of several crimes in 2018 but accepted a plea deal that saw him give up information about other gang members and their alleged activities. Furthermore, he gave the judge names of other celebrities with potential ties to the Blood sets of New York, including Cardi B.

As a result of his 2018 cooperation, the lyricist had his sentence reduced to 24 months after being charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, conspiracy to distribute heroin, and four firearms-related crimes. Following his 2020 release, he even told The New York Times, “No. I knew what I was doing with Nine Trey. I knew what I was getting into” and expressed that he didn’t regret his actions.

Still, his release was supervised and only conditional. When he returned with ‘GOOBA’ in 2020, he broke YouTube viewing records and the Instagram Live record, with over two million people watching his first broadcast. Following this, he released an album, Tattle Tales. With features from Nicki Minaj and Akon.

At first, he was placed on strict house arrest with a tag fitted. Still, as reported by the Associated Press, a judge later decided this would be reduced. He was ordered to pay a $510 deposit, undergo government counselling and meet with authorities every two months. Unfortunately, he has not met these requirements.

He has been in a lot of trouble since then. Since his release, he has faced issues in foreign countries. In January 2024, he was arrested in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo, and charged with domestic violence charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
