Tekashi 6ix9ine signs new multi-million dollar record deal with unique clause
Tekashi 6ix9ine is known as somebody not to be trusted within the hip-hop community, and when he returned in 2020 after two years of legal issues, he was disowned by the culture. Many in the scene weren’t welcoming to the rainbow-haired rapper to begin with. However, when Tekashi and his gang started to get arrested, his flagrant disregard for the rules of the streets made him untouchable.
The rapper was released from prison during the Covid-19 pandemic, and when he returned with ‘GOOBA’ in April, 2020, he broke YouTube viewing records and the Instagram live record, with over two million people watching his first broadcast.
However, following a series of back-to-back releases in 2020, the emcee went quiet and never showed his face in hip-hop again. Nevertheless, he wasn’t absent from music in its entirety but instead used his Latino background to his advantage.
Tekashi 6ix9ine abandoned hip-hop and made multiple appearances last year on Alofoke FM, a Spanish-speaking Dominican radio station. The artist has previously said he has pivoted towards the Latin market, which is unsurprising, considering few in the traditional hip-hop market will work with him. Furthermore, the Brooklyn native now lives in the Dominican Republic.
As such, ihe recently signed a multi-million dollar record deal with Kartel Music Group to release a Latin album. It has been reported the former gangsta rapper will be paid $1million to record a ten-song album with Mexican artists, then $250k per show on his tours in Mexico, Central America, South America and the United States.
The project will be recorded entirely in Spanish, and is most likely hoping that this new album will land somewhere on the Latin charts. Although this new deal has strings attached, and it has been reported that Tekashi 6ix9ine can’t have any legal issues or get arrested.
The ‘KOODA’ rhymer is reportedly comfortable with the stipulations. However, these conditions may be breached as the rapper is at the centre of a lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Yailin La Más Viral, accusing him of physical, sexual, mental and financial abuse.
In a statement to TMZ, 6ix9ine denied the allegations, stating, “All that jewelry is mine … that car she’s riding in I bought … the penthouse shoe [sic] got in the Dominican Republic I bought … I took care of her family, daughter — when I met her she had 2 month old baby — I put pampers and food on the table for them.”
