T-Pain believes Drake should “gracefully” exit the music industry
T-Pain says Drake hasn’t followed his own advice by “gracefully” exiting the music industry. The Florida singer believes Drizzy doesn’t know when to call it a day, claiming he keeps returning for more when his work is done.
During a recent episode of the Crash Dummies Podcast, T-Pain suggested Drake should stop trying to prove himself. “One thing I learned from Drake, but one thing he hasn’t followed his own words,” he began. “Drake said, ‘I wanna be one of them people that gracefully bow out and not get kicked out.’
“I have ever since said, ‘Thank y’all, I appreciate y’all. I’ll see y’all when I drop—don’t worry about it, I’ll just drop something. Let me know if you heard it.’ Drake is like, ‘No, listen, OK, I got another one. Hold on, check this out. Y’all ain’t like that one? OK, real quick, just one more. Let me try one more.’”
T-Pain claimed Drake became the person “he didn’t wanna be.” On the other hand, he said he took his advice and ran with it.
“Like, when he said that, ‘I wanna gracefully bow out and not get kicked out,’ I was like, ‘You know what? I’m out this bitch,’” he said. “I’m out this motherfucker. I’m not trying to impress y’all n*ggas. Y’all n*ggas don’t give a fuck if I live or die. Why the fuck would I keep trying to impress y’all? I’m out. I’m done. I did everything that I’m trying to do. I changed the game. I made a sound. What else?”
Drake’s original quotes come from his interview with Lil Yachty in 2023, where he floated the idea of retiring from music in the future.
“I’ll still be around to like, you know, work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to like, force myself to compete,” he said. “So I guess that’s the one thing that I want for myself really badly. I feel like a lot of people that I’ve watched as the years have gone on, it’s a really addictive, competitive space. And often times you’re like, addicted to the competition itself.
“Sometimes it’ll baffle you, like why are these people still making attempts at trying to be present in the space? And then you’ll realise they probably, their needs and desires and their soul was probably fed for so long off of being a guy, or the guy, that they can’t let it go.”
He added, “So I guess what’s left for me is just to find a way to gracefully—I’m not ready now—but to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely, like, interesting and hopefully cherished by people. And then to find the right time to say like, ‘I can’t wait to see what the next generation does.’”
