T-Pain to cover Black Sabbath, Journey and others on new album

The rapper T-Pain has announced that his forthcoming covers album will see him take on renditions of classic songs by the likes of Black Sabbath, Journey and many more. The album is entitled On Top Of The Covers and is set to be released on March 17th this year.

On Top Of The Covers will mark T-Pain’s first full-length album since he released the 1UP record back in 2019. On the album’s tracklist, we find that the rapper will provide cover renditions of Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’ and Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’, as well as alternate takes on Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’, Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show’s ‘Sharing The Night Together’ and Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’.

Rounding off the covers album are T-Pain’s versions of ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ by Chris Stapleton and ‘That’s Life’ by Frank Sinatra. The tracks are admittedly rather strange selections, but that makes the record all the more enticing. To celebrate the album’s release, T-Pain will perform at two back-to-back shows in Los Angeles on March 17th and 18th.

Discussing his excitement over the covers record and hinting at the peculiar song choices, T-Pain said in a press statement, “This covers album has been years in the making. This is something I’ve felt strongly about for a long time. These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album, and that is what I think is cool about it.”

Most recently, T-Pain had worked with Softest Hard on ‘I’m Blue’, which served as a remixed cover of the highly-irritating dance song ‘Blue (Da Be Dee)’. He also provided his talents to Denzel Curry back in March last year for his single ‘Troubles’, which was then released on Curry’s acclaimed fifth studio album ‘Melt My Eyez, See Your Future’.
