Snoop Dogg becomes co-owner of Swansea City FC
Snoop Dogg is following in Luka Modric’s footsteps by investing in Swansea City FC. The news comes after the hip-hop legend helped the Championship side announce their new shirt over the weekend.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano announced the partnership in a post on X on July 17th, revealing Snoop had become the club’s second investor.
“Understand Swansea City are set to announce their latest coup with Snoop Dogg joining the ownership group,” he wrote. “With global social media following over 190MM, Dogg will add worldwide recognition.
“This is the club’s second major investor announced since April when Luka Modric joined the US based group led by entrepreneurs and controlling shareholders, Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen.
Swansea City previously shared a photo of Snoop wearing their new home shirt. In a post on Instagram, they wrote, “Nuthin’ But a Wales Thang, the Jacks are ready. We’re the Pride of Wales,” referencing Dr Dre and Snoop’s 1992 hit, ‘Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang‘.
To go with the announcement, Snoop posted a clip of himself speaking to the people of Wales and Swansea. “Hail to Wales and to Swansea City,” he said. “It’s your boy, big Snoop Dogg. Coming to a hood near you. Oh yeah, these are the new jerseys.”
The collaboration was met with rumours about Snoop becoming a potential investor, but a club spokesperson remained tight-lipped.
“We appreciate the considerable interest and enthusiasm generated by Snoop Dogg’s appearance in a Swansea City shirt,” they said. “While we are not in a position to share specifics with you all just yet, we will be able to provide more details soon, and we’re excited about what’s to come.”
Modric acquired a minority stake in the club in April, becoming their new co-owner. In a statement, the former Real Madrid star said, “This is an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level.
“Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future.”
