Snoop Dogg announced as community chairman for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Snoop Dogg‘s association with football continues. The Long Beach rapper has been announced as the Los Angeles community chairman for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission chose Snoop on August 12th ahead of next year’s World Cup, which will occur in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Eight matches will be played at LA’s SoFi Stadium across June and July.

In a statement to CBS News, Snoop said, “It’s an honour to step up as the Community Chairman for the City of Angels as we get ready for the biggest game on the planet. We’re going to bring the world together. West Coast style – unity, respect and a whole lotta love for the beautiful game. LA, let’s make history in 2026!”

Kathryn Schloessman, CEO of the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee, added, “Snoop Dogg is more than a global icon. He embodies all that is Los Angeles, and his deep roots in the community and passion for uplifting the next generation make him the perfect ambassador as we prepare to welcome the world in 2026.”

Just last month, Snoop became co-owner of Swansea City alongside Real Madrid legend Luka Modric. In an Instagram video, he wrote, “Hail to Wales and to Swansea City. It’s your boy, big Snoop Dogg. Coming to a hood near you. Oh yeah, these are the new jerseys.”

Snoop’s World Cup announcement comes shortly after Killer Mike was confirmed as Atlanta’s celebrity ambassador in June.

“I’m looking forward to FIFA coming here, because I know the city is going to progress and grow and never be the same again,” he said. “This reminds me of when the Olympics came in the ’90s and how it grew the city. I want kids in Atlanta to understand that there’s nothing in the world that you can want to do that you can’t do right from Atlanta.”
