Singer R Kelly found guilty in child porn and sex abuse trial

Disgraced singer R Kelly has been recently found guilty of sex abuse and possession of child porn in his latest Chicago trial. The ignition hitmaker, who faced a federal jury on Wednesday, September 8th, was found guilty on six of his 13 counts and will serve a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years.

The verdict came after eight hours of deliberation by the jurors in the U.S. District Court of Chicago and will see Kelly return to prison to continue serving his sentence. Akin to Hollywood moguls Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein, Kelly has been one of the many entertainment industry figures who have had severe charges brought against them following the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

Several different women took the stand to testify against the artist, claiming that they had been consistently preyed upon by Kelly since the 1990s. One of the pieces of evidence brought against Kelly was a perverse video of Kelly molesting his goddaughter, who concurred in her certification that the singer’s lecherous activities date back to the 1990s.

The singer and his co-defendants were also accused of bribing and threatening witnesses ahead of their 2008 Illinois trial, in which they were all fully acquitted of charges, again, relating to possession of underage pornography.

In what is the latest in a series of cases across different judicial districts of the US, Kelly’s latest charge merely adds another 10 years on top of the 30 years he received in New York for racketeering and prostitution. Kelly, who has been in the spotlight now for over four years, has sullied his image, with some even calling for his music to be taken off of platforms along with a seizure of his awards.
