Shyne reflects on Diddy’s power: “I thought he was the devil”
Former Bad Boy rapper Shyne is speaking out about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs amid the latter facing charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution. Ahead of his upcoming documentary The Honorable Shyne, the Belizean artist, who is now a politician, has reflected on Puff’s personality during his time on the label, going as far as believing he was “devil” due to the power that he held.
Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison following a shooting that took place on December 27th, 1999 at Club New York in Manhattan. An altercation occurred between the Bad Boy crew and a man named Matthew “Scar” Allen, with shots being fired inside the club and three bystanders suffering injuries.
Diddy was acquitted of all charges, while Shyne was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, assault and reckless endangerment. He was later deported to Belize following his release from prison in 2009.
During a conversation with sports television personality Stephen A. Smith, Shyne denied receiving $10 million from Diddy to take prison time. Reiterating that Puff “destroyed” his life, he also claimed he always knew his former boss was a “creep,” long before the recent lawsuits being filed against him.
“People say Diddy gave me millions to go to jail. Nothing,” he said. “Probably made two, what I thought were offensive contributions over the last 20 something years, which led to a breakdown in the relations.”
He added, “For years I was saying what a creep I thought he was and how he destroyed my life. At one point I thought he was the devil. But because of the power of Diddy, which is so loud, as far as a pop culture icon, nobody listened, so I moved on.”
Shyne spoke more about Diddy’s power during an interview on the Tamron Hall Show, explaining, “The power of Diddy, the entertainer, the person that dominated pop culture was so loud for so long that no one heard myself and my mum and my supporters when we were crying about our lives being destroyed and devastated by Diddy.”
