Shelby County commissioner backs Big30’s request to ease bail restrictions

Rapper Big30 is attempting to ease his bond restrictions and has received support from a Shelby County commissioner.

The Memphis rapper was arrested in April after being accused of robbing and kidnapping Gucci Mane alongside Pooh Shiesty and others.

However, he was released on a $100,000 bond in June after a federal judge denied a motion to keep him in custody.

Now, Big30 is trying to loosen the strictness of his bail. According to Fox 13 Memphis, the rapper wants permission to travel to music studios and production meetings with Memphis and Shelby County, with advance approval from pretrial services.

At the moment, he’s unable to do so due to being under GPS tracking and home detention.

In a letter of support, Commissioner Miska Clay Bibbs said, “While Rodney has achieved success as an entertainer, many people are unaware of the substantial time and resources he has devoted to serving communities throughout Memphis and Shelby County.”

Bibbs added that Big30 “demonstrated commitment to family, employment, community and compliance provides strong evidence that he can continue to be successfully supervised within the community.”

Prosecutors allege the rapper joined Shiesty, his father, and others in an attempt to force Gucci to release Shiesty from his recording contract at gunpoint.

In defence, Big30’s lawyer said, “He doesn’t have a criminal history. He’s been making music for a number of years. He and Pooh Shiesty came up in the music game together. They were very close and made music together. It’s just sad that this is happening right now.”

He added, “I just hope that people will wait to pass judgment on Rodney and these other individuals until all the facts come out.”
