The secret beef between Remy Ma and Busta Rhymes: “I hated him”

Remy Ma and Busta Rhymes have known each other for a long time. In fact, Remy Ma’s first commercial appearance as a rapper was on a song featuring Busta Rhymes, M.O.P’s ‘Ante-Up (remix)’. Both MCs appeared on the record, and Remy was just 18 years old when it was released. The song has become an anthem for a generation hyped by the record. But while many great artists are on the tune, Remy Ma got her way onto the song in a less-than-conventional way.

When M.O.P. was putting the song together, Remy Ma found a unique way to finesse her place on the track. Rather than agreeing to be on there, the rapper found a spot in M.O.P.’s studio and recorded her rhymes while the duo was out. By the time Billy Danze of M.O.P. had returned, he couldn’t deny how good she sounded on the beat.

However, Busta Rhymes, who is now Remy Ma’s close friend, found himself in an unknown feud with the Conceited creator for two separate offences. During an appearance on the Joe Budden Show, Remy Ma recalled how Busta broke the sunglasses she planned on wearing for the video, revealing, “You have to remember I was in high school. This was the most expensive thing I had ever bought in my life was these Gucci glasses because I’m doing the video, and on the first take, this mother*cker broke my glasses by being Busta Rhymes just mad extra!”

She continued, “So I was like ‘Uh…Yo Busta Rhymes, you broke my glasses’, and he called the set person and was like, ‘You got some crazy glue or something?’ But he didn’t buy me no new glasses or nothing. I hated him for two years behind that!”

Busta Rhymes never knew the ‘Whuteva’ rhymer had an issue with him, but in 2022, when her husband Papoose was recording the remix for his song ‘Thought I was Gonna Stop alongside 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, the latter offered her a challenge over the phone and indirectly insinuated she wouldn’t be able to top the verse he had recorded for the track.

Recalling this on the Drink Champs podcast with Noreaga and DJ EFN, Remy remembered, “Pap is doing the ‘Thought I Was Gonna Stop’ remix, and it has Wayne on it and 2 Chainz and Busta. So [Papoose] calls me, and he’s like, ‘Oh Busta wanna talk to you.’ I’m expecting him to say, ‘Oh, my beautiful Gemini sister queen.’ That’s what I’m expecting because that’s what I usually get, but he’s like, ‘Yeah, I just laid my verse…but you gon’ see when it come out!'”

She continued, “The way he was talking to me was as if we had prior beef! I was so confused. He was like, ‘Yeah, you gonna see!’ So I was like, ‘Oh, so it’s lit’, because, mind you, I had a secret beef with him too!”

The Terror Squad member then proceeded to reflect on how mad she was when Busta Rhymes released an all-female remix of his club anthem ‘Touch It’ without her, stating, “When he put out the ‘Touch It’ remix, and he got Mary, Rah Diggah and Missy Elliott on there I was the hottest bitch out there why didn’t he call me?!”
