Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs attorneys ask potential witnesses to stop speaking

Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs’ legal case is still ongoing ahead of a trial scheduled against the rapper in May, 2025. Combs faces over 120 allegations against him, in addition to a number of civil lawsuits, which are running concurrently outside of the criminal charges.

Combs’ trial is due to charges related to racketeering, sex trafficking and transporting for prostitution across state lines, and the Bad Boy founder remains behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, where he will stay until the official trial starts.

However, with all the noise surrounding his case, many individuals who may be called as witnesses by the prosecution are speaking out and giving statements to the media and, according to the Press Play creator’s legal team, this is painting him in a bad light which may affect the trial.

As such, the producer’s attorneys have filed a motion requesting the court prohibit further extrajudicial statements. In the motion, brought to light by journalist Meghann Cuniff, Combs’ legal team, headed by Marc Agnifilo, insisted, “Mr. Combs has a constitutional right to a fair trial, free from the influence of prejudicial statements in the press.”

This filing comes after weeks of allegations concerning the emcee’s alleged parties and suspected ‘freak-offs’. Combs’ legal team are therefore concerned that the allegations being levelled against their client in the media by individuals could sway a jury at trial.

The motion continues, “As the Court is aware, Mr. Combs has been the target of an unending stream of allegations by prospective witnesses and their counsel in the press… These prospective witnesses and their lawyers have made numerous inflammatory extrajudicial statements aimed at assassinating Mr Combs’ character in the press.”

Combs’ team labelled the issue as “time sensitive” and detailed how “each day that passes brings a fresh wave of publicity, often at the direction of accusers and their counsel, further prejudicing Mr. Combs’ right to a fair trial.”

His lawyers have requested a ruling on the matter by October 30th, 2024. The filing of this motion is primarily the result of Texas-based lawyer Tony Buzbee, who claims he has more than 100 alleged victims ready to file lawsuits against the Bad Boy mogul. Several of them were minors at the time of the alleged incidents.

Due to being deemed as a flight risk, Combs has been denied bail despite offering up $50 million to leave the detention centre in Brooklyn. As it stands, he is set to remain at the facility until his trial in May, 2025.
