San Antonio mayor calls for cancellation of Kanye West concert

The mayor of San Antonio has called for the upcoming Kanye West concert to be cancelled.

Ye is scheduled to perform at the Alamodome on July 4th as part of the run of dates for his Bully album.

However, not everyone is on board with Kanye coming to the city, including San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.

Jones took to X (formerly Twitter) on June 20th to state that she wants the show to be cancelled over his past comments.

“I support cancelling the @kanyewest concert,” she wrote. “Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome – not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.”

The news comes shortly after Florida Senator Rick Scott condemned Ye’s upcoming shows at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

“Kanye West’s consistent antisemitic attacks are an affront to the values of the people of the Hillsborough community,” he said. “He has openly praised Nazis, called himself one, and slandered Jews across the world. Kanye West also funded a Superbowl ad in 2025 that directed viewers to purchase merchandise featuring swastikas.

He continued, “West’s remarks are vile and a slap in the face to our state’s Jewish community. It is troubling that a stadium supported by taxpayer dollars would openly subsidise an event led by an artist known for pushing this dangerous, hateful rhetoric, especially with Florida having one of the largest Jewish populations in our country.

Kanye apologised for his remarks in January, stating, “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change. It does not excuse what I did, though. I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.”
