Sada Baby arrested on drug charges following traffic stop
Sada Baby was arrested on drug charges on April 8th. The 32-year-old Detroit rapper (real name Casada Sorrell) is currently detained in the Macomb County Jail following a traffic stop four months ago.
Sterling Heights police pulled Sorrell over in January after they spotted him driving a Dodge Ram with tinted windows around 4am. They ran the licence plate and found out that the owner was wanted for an outstanding warrant.
In June 2023, he was charged with driving while unlicensed for three years, with a warrant request filed in October 2023. Sorrell was confirmed as the driver, and he was arrested. Police said he was also in possession of “possible illegal contraband,” subject to testing.
Sure enough, the test results confirmed it was narcotics, leading to his arrest in Shelby Township this week. According to Fox 2 Detroit, he’s facing a charge of possessing less than 25 grams of a controlled substance. Sorrell pleaded guilty to failing to display a valid license last month and was ordered to pay fines.
In March, Sada Baby released his latest album, Bridge Kard Blessings, featuring a remix of JMSN’s ‘Soft Spot’, which boasts almost six million streams on Spotify. His biggest song, 2020’s ‘Whole Lotta Choppas’, has over 57 million Spotify streams. The remix featuring Nicki Minaj peaked at number 35 on the Hot 100 and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Speaking to DJBooth in 2020, he said, “I didn’t grow up wanting to do music. I didn’t start rapping until five years ago. The first song I liked and understood was Shawty Lo’s ‘I’m The Man’ remix with Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. I don’t know if I felt anything when I first heard the song, but I began to understand and appreciate it more as I grew older.”
He added, “When I started doing music for real, I wanted to make a song that would make somebody feel how I felt when I heard that song. I feel like I’ve made that song 20 times at this point in my career.”
