Nicki Minaj’s favourite song from 2014 album ‘The Pinkprint’

Nicki Minaj has released a plethora of hit projects. Her debut album, Pink Friday, topped the Billboard 200 immediately. With appearances from the likes of Rihanna, Drake, Eminem, and Will.i.am, the project quickly reached platinum status. Still, some songs were better than others, and even Minaj herself has preferences concerning which tracks she likes.

During an interview, Minaj once revealed that her favourite track from Pink Friday is ‘Roman’s Revenge’ featuring Eminem. A track which hears the two go back and forth in an aggressive and angry exchange as their alter egos, Roman and Slim Shady. Concerning the track, Minaj denied that the chorus which hears her rap “Rah rah like a dungeon dragon” was about Lil’ Kim, stating, “No, I’m talking about everyone who has been in interviews talking, and I think it’s good for people to hear me respond.”

She continued, “People have said so much about me, so I don’t ever single anyone out because no one is worth being singled out. No one is worth having their name mentioned out of my mouth, and they never will get that.”

Many found it strange that Minaj would love ‘Roman’s Revenge’ considering that it didn’t bring her much commercial success, only managing to reach number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the other hand, tracks such as ‘Moment For Life’ and ‘Super Bass’ were highly successful in the charts. Still, the latter was a pop-rap fusion, unlike her favourite.

In 2012, Minaj released her highly-anticipated sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. However, some of the tracks that feature on there Minaj isn’t even a fan of today. In a Q&A panel appearance with Pollstar Live in 2020, the lyricist professed, “I hate ‘Starships,’ I mean, ew, ‘Starships?’ I’m like, ‘Why did I do that?’ I really think that every time I hear it.” However, she does like ‘Beez In The Trap’, a single for which she teamed up with Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz—a minimalist, dark trap song.

Minaj’s third album, The Pinkprint, landed at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and Minaj has her own favourite song from the body of work. However, the track that is Minaj’s favourite had a poor rollout — ‘Feeling Myself.’

The track featured both Minaj and the iconic Beyoncé. However, the track was released during the rollout of Jay-Z’s commercial venture, TIDAL. An exclusive streaming service meant to benefit artists. However, the video and track were released on the platform before they hit DSP’s. Furthermore, the video has only been pirated and has recently been made available on YouTube.

As a result, hype and buzz around the track died down when fans quickly realised they couldn’t stream it or see the video, and it proved to be a commercial misstep for Minaj. The song, which was released as a single, landed at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, proving that even artists as big as Minaj and Beyoncé can fail when they don’t correctly roll out and market their music. Still, it remains a fan-favourite of Barbs.
