Rich Homie Quan’s cause of death revealed
Almost one month after the Atlanta rapper’s passing, Rich Homie Quan’s cause of death has been revealed. He died aged 34 on September 5th, 2024.
On October 1st, 2024, it was confirmed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office that Quan died of an accidental drug overdose. The details were released in an autopsy report that the Medical Examiner’s Office filed.
There were several drugs found in the rapper’s system, which included alprazolam, codeine, fentanyl, THC and promethazine. The report confirmed that the drug overdose was likely accidental, given there were no signs of trauma.
His brother found the rapper’s body and informed police that he thought the rapper was asleep on the floor by the kitchen. He knew something was wrong when he picked up his brother and saw there was still food in his mouth, which he described as “very unusual.” The police were called, who attended the property and noted on arrival that Quan’s body was cold and he was not breathing.
The loss was a big blow to the hip-hop community, as Quan was a huge name in the rap game throughout the mid-2010s. He found mainstream fame thanks to his trap songs ‘Type of Way’ and ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)’. The song was so big that many rappers, including big names such as Meek Mill and Jeezy, recorded remixes.
However, Quan proved that he didn’t need other rappers’ help to be successful. His debut album, Rich as in Spirit, was released without any features except for one song that had a snippet from Rick Ross. Released in 2018, the album was well-received and made people look at Quan in a different light.
His impact on hip-hop could be seen in how many tributes poured in for the rapper once news of his passing broke. Quavo shared photos of himself with Quan alongside his former Migos bandmates, as well as Young Thug, with the simple caption, “May God be with US never saw this being apart of our journey.”
2 Chainz also took to social media to pay tribute to Quan. He wrote, “Dam lil brother ,we just spoke about shooting a video, special prayer for you and your family, and pray for any and everybody that’s dealing with something. my condolences bru.”
