R Kelly under investigation in prison
R Kelly is reportedly under investigation for possessing retired warden’s phone number.
The disgraced singer was placed in solitary confinement last week following an undisclosed infraction at FCI Butner Medium I in North Carolina.
According to TMZ, the disciplinary action was due to an incident involving a former prison warden. Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, claims it all started when Kelly got involved in a mentor program to help other inmates.
The warden who oversaw the program recently retired and allegedly gave him his phone number if he ever wanted to reach out for advice.
However, Kelly’s cellmate was recently caught with a mobile phone, which caused prison officers to search his cell. In doing so, they discovered Kelly’s notebook, which contained the warden’s number written down.
In a statement, the federal Bureau of Prisons said, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement or internal security procedures for any inmate or group of inmates.”
Brindley found out that Kelly had been sent to the Special Housing Unit just 30 minutes before he arrived at the prison to review evidence in his motion for a new trial.
Being in isolation limits his access to calls, visits, and legal materials, meaning he was unable to proceed with legal matters.
Kelly is serving a 31-year sentence after being convicted in 2021 and 2022. He was found guilty of racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, coercion, sex trafficking, and violating the Mann Act.
In a prison interview last year, Kelly said “singing is a beautiful disease that’s incurable” and that he’s “working on getting out and getting back to getting back to what it is God” gave him talents for.
