R Kelly’s expected prison release date has been announced
A prison release date has been announced for R Kelly, who is currently behind bars on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
Kelly was sentenced to a total of 31 years across two legal cases, with the charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, bribery, coercion, and producing child pornography.
According to a CBS News report obtained by RapTV, the singer is scheduled to be released from prison on December 21st, 2045. He will be 78.
Kelly is serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina. The singer had a bond request rejected last year after failing to prove that he wasn’t a danger to the public.
“Kelly has not produced any argument or evidence – much less clear and convincing evidence – challenging [the court’s previous] finding or indicating that circumstances have changed such that Kelly is no longer a flight risk or a danger to the community,” a motion stated.
His time in prison has been eventful, with Kelly being rushed to the hospital for overdosing on medication.
The morning after being put in isolation and given medication by members of staff, he fainted, experienced dizziness, and lost his vision, forcing him to be hospitalised.
Doctors determined that Kelly had a life-threatening dose of medication, keeping him under observation for two days.
Coming days after Kelly’s lawyers accused prison officials of plotting to kill him, attorney Beau Brindley claimed the amount of drugs issued wasn’t accidental.
“That means that, within two days of the filing of his motion, Bureau of Prisons officials administered an amount of medication that significantly exceeded a safe dose and caused Mr Kelly to overdose, putting his life in jeopardy,” he said. “They gave him an amount of medicine that could have killed him.”
