Prosecutors use Bay Area rapper’s murder lyrics to keep him in jail

Bay Area rapper Weez Gotti will remain behind bars after prosecutors cited murder lyrics in his songs.

The 30-year-old (real name Luis Rincon) from North Richmond is currently detained after being arrested for firearm possession following an Airbnb break-in.

According to The Mercury News, prosecutors persuaded US Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixson to keep Gotti in jail after presenting his rap lyrics.

In court filings, Assistant US Attorney Kelsey Davidson stated that his song, ‘BIG Steppa’, included lyrics “in which he brags about murdering people.”

Prosecutors claim that he admitted to murdering seven people in the lyrics of the track, which was released in May 2021. In the song, which has over 6.7 million views on YouTube, he raps, “I got seven on my belt, bitch, I’m a real killer.”

She also claimed that Gotti later “details some of these murders in detail, including how he ‘almost caught a triple,’ which law enforcement believes is referring to a double homicide where a third victim survived.”

They allege that his criminal history, involvement in a gang, and confessions in lyrics make him a danger to the public. Judge Hixson wrote, “The defendant has convictions for, among other things, two prior weapons offences, evading peace officers, and for violating post release community supervision.”

He continued, “The defendant was also on parole at the time of the charged offence. In addition, he has an active warrant for another parole violation and another weapons offence.”

The rapper is charged with possessing a gun that was found inside a burglarised home, which typically doesn’t result in pretrial detention.

Gotti previously spent seven years in prison for a gun case that involved a police chase and was released in 2025.
