Proceeds from Kanye West’s ‘Free Larry Hoover’ benefit merch to go to charity

Last weekend, Kanye West and Drake came together for a charity concert at the LA Coliseum. Surprisingly, it was reported the proceeds from their merch weren’t being donated to tackle social justice reform; however, this has now been cleared up.

The highly sought-after merchandise available for fans at the concert included coveted limited edition clothing exclusively produced in collaboration with Balenciaga designer Demna and Amazon Fashion.

The luxurious clothing line available featured a hoodie, t-shirt, jumpsuit, jeans and a hat, each with the slogan ‘Free Hoover’ emblazoned on them. Prices for the merch ranged from $60 to an eye-watering, $360.

Initially, it was alleged that the money raised from these sales would not be going to charity. GQ reporter Eileen Carter stated, “a rep confirmed none of the proceeds from the Ye x Drake x Demna x Amazon Fashion merch for last night’s Larry Hoover benefit concert will go to criminal justice orgs.”

However, this has now been refuted by the organisers of the concert, with a spokesperson informing NME, “The show merch (both sold at the venue and via Amazon) has always been considered as another component of the larger benefit and is being treated the exact same way with a portion of proceeds directed to supporting legal reform and community advocates including Ex-Cons for Community and Social Change, Hustle 2.0 and Uptown People’s Law Center.”
