Post Malone surprises single mother with $20,000 tip: “He changed my life”
Post Malone changed a single mother’s life over Christmas with a generous $20,000 tip at a bar in Houston, Texas. 36-year-old Renee Brown was working a late shift on Christmas Eve, being forced to leave her nine-year-old daughter Iliana for the first time when they would usually watch movies and bake cookies.
“Going into work Christmas Eve, I was so sad I had to leave my baby girl to go to work, oblivious that God would send me a Christmas miracle,” she told Music Mayhem. “This is hands down the most humble, personable celebrity I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He changed my life on Christmas fucking Eve, and will forever be grateful. Thank you so much, Austin.”
The rapper lifted the spirits of what she describes as a “neighbourhood dive bar,” while noting the kindness he showed to her and all of her colleagues. When Malone asked for his bill at the end of the night, he discovered he didn’t have one because friends and bar regulars had paid for his drinks. However, he asked Brown to charge him for something so that he could leave a five-figure tip.
“I immediately broke down crying,” she recalled. “It was a very emotional night already being away from home, being swamped behind the bar, trying to process that they were even there and then the tip on top. I finally got a chance to stop cleaning and talk to him some more and thank him. I know I was crying and thanking him, but he has no idea exactly how much this meant to me.”
Brown spoke about the difficulties she’s faced being a single mum who is “constantly exhausted” and has been without a car for two years. She also recently moved home after losing everything and starting fresh in August.
With the help of Malone’s tip, she’s now able to commute to work, pay rent and put some money into savings. On top of that, she no longer has to work two jobs in order to start a business of her own, allowing her to spend more time with her daughter.
“Things have been extremely difficult, and this was truly a blessing that I can’t fully put into words,” she explained. “The visit alone was absolutely amazing and something I could talk about and remember for the rest of my life. If this message reaches him, I know I told him that night how grateful I am, but I’d like to reiterate that he helped me in ways I can’t even begin to explain.”
