Post Malone explains why he is a chain-smoker

Texas rapper Post Malone is one of the most popular white rappers out at present. With multi-platinum hits such as ‘White Iverson’ and ‘Rockstar’ under his belt, he is most definitely in the upper echelons of contemporary hip hop.

With career beginnings in the early 2010s, Malone began his pursuit of a music career in 2011 when he would record demos and raps to show his friends. However, nothing would come of it. For two years, he remained in Texas and even briefly attended Tarrant County College.

However, in 2015, when Malone uploaded ‘White Iverson’ to his SoundCloud, he exploded into the mainstream, but with tracks such as ‘Rockstar’ many looked at the Texas rapper (real name Austin Post) as a drug artist. Still, in a 2022 appearance on the Full Send podcast with NELK’s Bob Menery and Kyle Forgeard, the Post revealed he’s a chain-smoker and smokes between 40 and 80 cigarettes a day.

Opening up about his nicotine habit, the ‘Sunflower’ musician revealed, “On a really terrible day? There’s a very fine line between a terrible day and a good day… 40-45. By the time I ask Ben for that second pack, I’m like, ‘Alright, dude, chill out.’ But then by the time I open that third pack, I’m like, ‘I’m a total piece of shit, and I need to go to sleep.'”

When asked about the most cigarettes he’s ever smoked in a day, he replied, “Probably like 80.” The Stoney rhymer also spoke about where he smokes and admitted it sometimes interferes with his vocal abilities, stating, “I used to [smoke them in bed], but not really anymore. Now I have like a special zone. It has like my PC in it and my Magic: The Gathering shit.” It’s well known that the emcee is a fan of the collectable card game.

He continued, “I just go down there and fucking rip cigs and build decks and die in Apex Legends. It definitely has [fucked up my voice], but I mean, Johnny Cash smoked his whole life – he sounded cool, you know?” It

Posty then went into detail about how he switched from smoking Marlboro Reds in favour of Camel Crush, disclosing, “I used to smoke Marlboro Reds, and that was a lot cooler of me, but now I smoke girly cigarettes like Camel Crush, and that’s my favourite cigarette.”

Regardless of the negative side effects of smoking, it seems the emcee doesn’t plan on kicking the habit anytime soon. You can hear Post Malone opening up about his addiction in the video below.
