Post Malone breaks unwanted Grammys record formerly held by Snoop Dogg
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards was an eventful evening, and many milestones were reached. However, some of the landmark achievements had negative consequences for certain people—one of the history-making moments that occurred during the night involved ‘White Iverson’ emcee Post Malone.
The ‘Rockstar’ rapper who attended the event at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles was not nominated for an award in the hip-hop category this time but instead in the country category. Still, the lyricist did not go home with a coveted Grammy. As such, he has now overtaken Snoop Dogg as the number-one most-nominated artist of all time not to receive an award.
Although it is quite an embarrassing title to hold, Post Malone is not the only rapper to experience issues with the Grammys. Unbelievably, 50 Cent has never received a Grammy for a solo track or album, merely one for a track he featured on 15 years ago. Furthermore, Nicki Minaj has never received an award from the academy.
Still, this year, Post Malone snatched the unwanted title from Snoop Dogg who has been nominated a whopping 17 times with zero wins to his name. Now, the Texas rapper has the title with 18 overall nominations. However, Snoop and Posty have the highest number of nominations with no wins, only for recording artists.
An individual who has more nominations and none of the glory is Mastering Engineer Chris Gehringer, who, for obvious reasons, has an entirely behind-the-scenes role. The audio engineer has accrued 21 nominations in total to no effect. One of his nominations this year was for mastering Charlotte Day Wilson’s sophomore project, Cyan Blue.
Post Malone’s country nominations were for his album, F-1 Trillion, his solo track ‘Had Some Help,’ and his collaboration with Taylor Swift ‘Fortnight’, which appeared on the popstar’s acclaimed project, The Tortured Poets Department.
Although Post Malone moved from hip-hop to country, his snub wasn’t the biggest news of the night concerning the genre as Beyoncé became the first black woman ever to win the Best Country Album award. Furthermore, to the surprise of many, the young superstar Doechii became the third-ever woman to win Best Rap Album.
However, undoubtedly, the most astounding event of the night was Kendrick Lamar’s win of the Grammy award for Record of the Year for his diss track, ‘Not Like Us’. This has made DJ Mustard and Kendrick the first people in hip-hop history to make a Grammy-award-winning diss track, which is a sign that Drake may have fallen out of favour with some of the people at the academy as he is a regular at the Grammy Awards and no stranger to the coveted golden gramophone. Still, Post Malone is most likely unhappy with the title he has now earned.
