The pop bands Lil Uzi Vert adores: “I made a song kind of dedicated to them”
Although Lil Uzi Vert was one of the biggest contemporary MCs during the SoundCloud era of the 2010s, they have fallen back slightly in recent times as more prominent lyricists begin to make their way up the ranks of hip-hop. However, they are still just as interesting of a person.
Lil Uzi Vert never ceases to amaze their fans with their taste in music. Behind the scenes, they are a fan of so many artists their audience would never have thought of. Whether it’s Marilyn Manson or some other hardcore rock group, the Philadelphia rapper is full of surprises, and they once admitted that, as a child, they were a fan of boy bands and remains one to this day.
The Pink Tape creator, like Lil Wayne, shared through their music that they are somewhat of a big admirer of rock and rockstars in 2023. Upon the release of last year’s Eternal Atake 2, Lil Uzi Vert revealed that they like boy bands, particularly and strangely, Big Time Rush. In fact, they even admitted that one of the songs on the project is an ode to them.
Ttheir is the first time that Lil Uzi Vert has opened up about any sort of love for the pop-rock genre and, furthermore, the first time they have shown excitement about working with an artist from outside hip-hop.
During a discussion about their project, Eternal Atake 2, Lul Uzi Vert excitedly declared, “I got some vocals and stuff from Big Time Rush!” There was only one reason why the emcee called upon the band comprised of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logantheynderson, and Carlos PenaVega, and that is because they are a fan.
Conveying how much of a supporter of Big Time Rushthey is, the lyricist revealed, “I made a song kind of dedicated to them, and I was like, ‘I wonder if they could say something cool in the beginning, they might harmonize on it and all that’” and it’s fair to say the ‘X0 Tour Lif3’ rhymer got what they asked for as the group happily provided an into for the track which has chorus “Bitch, I’m Big Time Rush!”
When asked if they were a stan of Big Time Rush, they responded, “100 percent! So in that era, I thought that every boy band, like Naked Brother’s Band, everything, Big Time Rush, just anyone, was the epitome of a celebrity.”
He continued, “It’s still celebrities, but everybody feels like somebody right now. But you know how a celebrity will put you in your place just by the outfit and just their whole mannerisms, and you’re like, ‘Oh, shit. What am I doing wrong in life?’ They were like that. I’m like, ‘Damn, their unreal life was actually their real life.’ It’s crazy.”
Lil Uzi didn’t expect the band to jump on the song, so when they got the “yes” response, they were very happy. Speaking to Rolling Stone about how they felt when they confirmed the feature, the Philly rapper detailed, “Amazing. You know how artists are like, ‘Of course.’ But I didn’t even really think they knew me. Not that they didn’t know me —it’s like I didn’t think they knew me, like rocking with me. And I really appreciate that.”
