Playboi Carti once picked his favourite song of all time

Earlier this year, Atlanta legend Playboi Carti returned after a long hiatus to the relief of fans and artists alike. Many of his counterparts, including The Weeknd, Nav, Destroy Lonely, and Ken Carson, expressed excitement about his re-emergence after questions began to surface about his whereabouts.

That said, in January, he began releasing singles for his upcoming album. The lyricist has been hinting at a project since late last year when he teased fans with snippets and clips uploaded to social media. However, an album is still nowhere to be seen.

Carti began releasing a series of singles in January, such as ‘Backr00ms’, ‘H00dByAir’, and ‘EvilJ0rdan’. Furthermore, he appeared as a feature on Travis Scott’s epic album Utopia. Still, his more avid fans are upset as Carti’s last body of work, Whole Lotta Red, came out in 2020.

With the world caught in the middle of a pandemic, his loyal followers couldn’t see him live or get a tour to accompany the album, making its whole rollout rather underwhelming. Unfortunately, the QC prodigy is currently in no rush to release anything.

The last single he released, ‘2024’, was received exceptionally well by fans, and his cult following turned it into an anthem. However, for unknown reasons, the rapper decided to remove it from YouTube, and although there are plenty of re-posts of the song all over the internet, people are beginning to sense that something is going on with the ‘Magnolia’ rhymer.

The Die Lit musician hasn’t had an interview since 2019. Still, earlier this year, he appeared on a stream with famous YouTuber Adin Ross. However, he appeared wearing a mask and was only present for five minutes after arriving over two hours late.

Carti has become a Frank Ocean-type figure within hip-hop, releasing music sporadically and appearing unexpectedly without granting fans their one wish—a full-length album. Although for Ocean, many accept it as part of his brand and shy nature as a musician, concerning Carti, it has become frustrating as, when he first arrived, he was unbelievably consistent and visible regarding music and promotion.

Fans have been able to hear him as a featured artist on pivotal LPs such as Vultures and Utopia, but they still need more. That said, when he was at full momentum, he once sat down with Genius for their YouTube series ’10 For 10′ on which he made some exciting revelations.

During the discussion, he was asked about his favourite rappers, to which he responded with a rather unusual and boastful answer, replying, “Carti, Carti, Carti, Carti and Carti” as he counted to five on his hands.

The Atlanta native was also asked about his dream collaboration, to which he responded, “Uh…Lil Uzi!” Luckily for Carti, that dream came true, and the pair worked together on several songs, including ‘Woke Up Like This’ and ‘Shoota’. The two icons have since become close friends.

He unveiled that A$AP Rocky was his biggest inspiration. However, when he was asked about the best track to drive to, he simultaneously revealed it was his favourite, citing, “‘Nights’ by Frank Ocean. I was in the studio when he made that. That’s my favourite song!”

It’s rather strange that Carti highlighted Frank Ocean because, as previously mentioned, he has become more and more like the enigmatic singer by the day with his mysticism and absence.
